Youth and Junior Run Squad Adelaide.
The Ultra Journey Adelaide youth and junior run squad is launching. This junior run squad is for runners based in and around Adelaide, South Australia as it is for in person coached sessions.
We are passionate about supporting runners to ‘run with a smile’.
For those that don’t know me a snapshot of my qualifications include;
- IAAF Level 4 Run Coach
- Level 1 Triathlon Coach
- 18+ years coaching experience
- Australian Strength and Conditioning Association Level 1 Coach
- Health & Physical Education Teacher Reception to Year 12 with 10+ yrs. experience
- Bachelor of Applied Science Human Movement
As a coach of juniors, my focus includes;
- An athlete centred approach
- Making running fun
- Developing a lifelong love of running
- Building social skills through meeting like-minded runners
- Developing athletes running skills and strategies when racing
- Supporting athletes to learn training principles
- Supporting students to finish their events with a smile
Training details
When: Thursday nights from 4:00-5:00pm, during school term dates ie 10 week blocks with the holidays off.
Age: 8-15yrs. (At 16yrs they can join the adult squad which runs after from 5:30-6:30pm on a Thursday at the same spot)
Start Date: We are up and running, drop us a message (email, message or phone) to join the youth/ junior squad.
Where: Adelaide Uni Loop, meeting at the 400m mark, opposite MacKinnon Parade Children’s Centre
What: A focus on 2-3km event distance that students run at cross country but this could easily be extended out to the 5km parkrun. These distances ultimately supporting student’s aerobic fitness in Field Invasion Games such as AFL, Hockey, Soccer, Lacrosse etc
Areas Covered
Over the term we will cover a range of areas including Run Technique, Run Drills, Acceleration, Deceleration, Change of Direction (COD), agility, pacing as well as incorporating the basics of strength training.
Additional to the Thursday run athletes will receive one other optional run to complete in their own time during the week. They can do this at a time that is convenient for you/ fits in with their schedule. The aim of this is simply to give them a chance to practice the concepts from the squad session on their own, empowering athletes and creating guided autonomy with their training.
With parental permission, each athlete will be set up with their own free Training Peaks account. Training Peaks is a run coaching program that allows us to set a program for your athlete that you can access online, allowing athletes/parents to log on to see the additional optional set.
