Kyle Chalmers can swim! He’s not just great; he’s the best in the world.
Chances are you can swim too, but you’ll be left a long way behind.
When you swim there are plenty of things that you are doing, which are just wrong, hence why, you are nowhere near Kyle.
If you want to improve as a swimmer you would need to fix these issues.
But chances are you wouldn’t even know where to start. Kyle could show you how because he knows the secrets and the way to do things. But it wont just happen.
When you improve at something you always progress through the following:
Unconscious Incompetence
You don’t know you are doing ‘it’ wrong, but a skilled performer can quickly tell you that ‘it’s’ just wrong.
Conscious Incompetence
You now realize you are doing ‘it’ wrong, often from being told by a teacher, coach or skilled performer. But continue to complete the activity in the incorrect manner because that’s the way you have always done it.
Conscious Competence
You have now corrected the mistake but have to think about it every time to perform it correctly.
Unconscious Competence
You have now corrected the mistake and do ‘it’ correctly every time; because this is now the way you do things.
Each of us has areas where we are highly skilled and areas where we are novices and would benefit from learning from the best in the world.
I don’t know, but I bet Kyle is a lousy ultra marathon runner but id sure love to have a swimming lesson from him.
Enjoy the adventure.
Run, smile and have fun!
