Do you train by distance or time?
While we race to distance, training should be completed based on time.
The physiological toll (stress) you are placing on the body is related to the time spent at different intensities (efforts). It is time spent at these intensities that we want to maximize to give you the best training adaptations.
Training to distance regularly means that runners start to ‘push’ too hard for the aim of the set. They want to complete their 1km reps, 2km, 5km, 10km intervals etc. in under a specific time. And suddenly they are racing every effort.
The solution is simple, start training to time.
Train when it matters, race when it counts and run your best ultra.
Enjoy the adventure.
Run, smile and have fun!
